Flash boxes are used at a column feed location for overheated feed.  In this case, flashing vapor is formed at the feeding location, which would impede the liquid distributor’s function without flash boxes.

Liquid distributors are the most important construction elements for separation columns which are equipped with structured packings.  The high separation performance of structured packings is only achieved by highly precise liquid distributors.

Liquid catchers are positioned between two packing sections. The sprinkling liquid from the top bed is held back by the liquid catcher and can be redirected from here to a liquid distributor to feed the bottom bed.

Gas distributors and steam distributors are used to achieve a uniform vapor flow over the entire column cross-section.

Support systems support structured packings.
